Programs
The Department of Languages and Linguistics offers a major in Spanish, various minors and a Certificate of Intercultural Engagement.
Once a student has taken a course at the 300 or 400 level, they cannot enroll in a 200-level course or below. Additionally, at the 100 and 200 levels, courses must be taken in sequence. For example, a student cannot enroll in 101 after having completed 102 or in 201 after having completed 202.

Bachelor of Arts in SpanishÌý— The B.A. in Spanish provides a strong liberal arts background that leads students to attain proficiency in both oral and written Spanish as well as an in-depth understanding of the history and culture of Spain and Latin America. The program also provides a solid foundation in linguistics and an understanding of second language acquisition and pedagogy. The B.A. in Spanish is designed to prepare students for the globalized workplaces of the U.S. and abroad as well as for graduate studies in language, professional programs, teaching and a plethora of other careers.
Minors
Minor in FrenchÌý- Recommended for those students majoring in another program, but who are interested in attaining proficiency and an understanding of French language and culture. Twenty-four semester hours of 200-level courses or higher are required for a minor (FRE 250 does not count toward the minor).

Minor in SpanishÌý- Recommended for those students majoring in another program, but who are interested in attaining proficiency in the language and an understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture. Twenty-four semester hours of 200-level courses or higher are required for a minor.Ìý

Minor in Asian Studies- The minor in Asian studies focuses on the history, culture and politics of East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. It provides students with an understanding of the interdisciplinary field of Asian Studies. The minor helps prepare students for careers in business, government and nonprofit/non-governmental organizations, and is designed to enhance the marketability of those applying to law schools, MBA programs and graduate schools in various disciplines.

Latin American Studies MinorÌý- The Latin American studies minor is designed to internationalize a number of existing majors by introducing students to the history, culture, politics and economics of Latin America and the Caribbean from an interdisciplinary perspective. This program helps students prepare for careers in government, business, academia and non-governmental organizations, as well as for graduate school in multiple disciplines.

Ìý- The minor in applied linguistics will appeal to students who are interested in learning languages and teaching second languages, including TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), both at home and abroad. This minor will also prepare students for graduate studies in one of the many branches of linguistics as well as TESOL and second language acquisition and teaching.

Certificates
Certificate of Intercultural EngagementÌý- Employers seek graduates who are proficient in at least one foreign language and who can successfully navigate the complexities of working with others of different cultures. The Certificate of Intercultural Engagement supports °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êapp students of all majors in becoming interculturally competent bridge builders through language study, global knowledge coursework, global engagement activities and study abroad.
